Optimum Radial Drill Presses
A radial drill press moves the spindle over a stationary workpiece along a swivelling arm, so large and heavy parts are drilled without repositioning. This section has two classes of Optimum machines: the compact RB6T and RB8S on 230 V with a 0.75 kW motor and a head that tilts ±45°, and the industrial OPTIdrill RD4 and RD5 on 400 V, drilling 32 and 42 mm in steel.

How to Choose a Radial Drill Press
When You Need a Radial Drill
On a pillar drill the part has to be moved under the spindle for every hole. With a heavy or bulky workpiece such as a gearbox housing, plate or frame, that is awkward and inaccurate. A radial drill works the other way round: the part is clamped once and the spindle head is moved to each hole along an arm that swings around the column. Drilling, reaming, countersinking and tapping are all done in one setup.
Compact or Industrial
The compact RB6T and RB8S run on 230 V, have a 0.75 kW motor and a head that tilts ±45°, which suits workshops and maintenance departments that need angled holes in medium-sized parts. The industrial OPTIdrill RD4 and RD5 weigh 1120 and 1800 kg, have 3 kW and 4 kW motors and drill 32 and 42 mm in steel. They are machines for a production floor with a steady flow of large parts.
Reach and Height
Besides drilling capacity, look at the reach, the largest distance from the column to the spindle axis, and at the distance from the spindle to the table or base. Together they decide how wide and how tall a part can be machined. On the RB6T, for example, the reach is adjustable from 115 to 430 mm. Parts that do not fit on the table are placed on the machine base or on the floor beside it.
Installation and Power Supply
Industrial radial drills need three-phase 400 V supply, a level concrete floor or foundation and anchor bolts, plus a crane or forklift for unloading. Plan the location with the swing of the arm in mind so that it does not hit walls or neighbouring machines. The compact 230 V models are placed on a sturdy workbench or stand and bolted down.
FAQ
What work is a radial drill press needed for?
For drilling, reaming out and tapping holes in housings and large parts that are inconvenient or impossible to move under the spindle.
Do the prices include VAT?
Two amounts are shown next to each price: incl. 20% VAT (large) and excl. VAT. We provide an invoice and a delivery note for legal entities and sole proprietors (FOP).
What is the warranty on the machines?
The machines come with a 12-month warranty. Goods of proper quality can be returned within 14 days in accordance with the law.
