Diamond Core Bits for Concrete and Reinforced Concrete
DISTAR diamond core bits for pipe, duct and socket box holes. The 32-450 mm bits, 450 mm long with a 1 1/4 UNC thread (Reinforced concrete and RM-TX series), go on diamond drilling rigs, and the 68, 72 and 82 mm segment bits with an M16 thread fit rotary hammers through an SDS-plus adapter. Small 6-46 mm Granite Active bits are for granite and porcelain stoneware.

How to choose a diamond core bit
Which machine
The mounting decides the machine. Bits with a 1 1/4 UNC thread go on a diamond drilling rig with a stand and water feed, used for 32 to 450 mm holes through the full thickness of concrete and reinforced concrete walls. Segment bits with an M16 thread work with a rotary hammer through an SDS-plus adapter, in drilling mode without hammering, and suit 68-82 mm socket boxes. Small Granite Active bits are used with water; check their mounting against your machine chuck or adapter.
Concrete or reinforced concrete
If the wall has rebar, take a bit for reinforced concrete: segments with harder diamonds cut through steel without burning out. For plain concrete, brick and blocks a general-purpose series is enough. Depth per pass is limited by the 450 mm working length; for thicker walls the core is removed and drilling continues.
Hole diameter
For a 110 mm drain pipe a bit 10-20 mm larger is usually chosen to leave room for sealant or a sleeve; for a 125 mm duct, 132-152 mm. The standard size for a socket box is 68 mm; 72 and 82 mm are for larger boxes or to leave room for mortar. Large 250-450 mm bits are used for ventilation ducts, flues and service openings and only run on a rig with a stand fixed by an anchor or a vacuum base.
Water and dust
Large holes are drilled with water feed, which cools the segments, flushes slurry and extends the life of the bit. Small bits can be used dry with a dust extractor. If a bit stops cutting, its segments have glazed: open them with a few passes in an abrasive block or sand-lime brick. Start at low speed so the bit does not wander, then switch to working speed once it is a few millimetres deep.
