How to choose a diamond cup wheel
Concrete or stone
DGS-W segment cup wheels with tall segments are made for heavy stock removal: levelling concrete surfaces and screed, removing mortar ridges, paint and adhesive. DGM-S wheels with a grit number work finer: they are used on granite and marble to remove scratches and prepare the stone for polishing. Take the first group for concrete and the second for stone.
Diameter and mounting
125 mm cup wheels fit 125 mm angle grinders with a guard, 100 mm wheels suit small grinders and work close to walls and in corners. A 22.23 mm bore is clamped with the standard flange nut, while an M14 thread screws straight onto the spindle, which makes changing grits faster. A grinding shroud with a dust extractor port is the most convenient setup.
Grit and order of passes
Grit numbers go from coarse to fine: No. 00 and 0 remove material and level, No. 2 and 3 smooth the surface before polishing. Work through them in order without skipping a grade, otherwise scratches from the coarse grit stay visible. Stone is ground with water so the segments do not overheat and the surface does not burn.
