Friction Inserts for Forging and Press Clutches and Brakes
Friction inserts, or friction blocks, are the replaceable friction elements of clutches and brakes on forging and pressing equipment. The range covers inserts by drawing codes 4ЕК, УД, К274А, К3047 and 755xx, inserts for PKZ, PKZZ and ScPK clutches and brakes, for the В1132А forging machine, and ФА-124 and ФА-127 sectors. Some names include the size, for example 8БС-045-004 (400x140x38) or 13 FK-2A (140x60x30).

How to Choose a Friction Insert
Drawing Code
The most reliable way is to select by the drawing code given on the unit drawing or in the press parts catalogue: 4ЕК-127, УД-1830А, К274А-21М-801. Watch the suffixes: УД1303, УД1303-01 and УД1303-02 are different parts, as are К274А-21М-801 and К274А-21М-801-1. They differ in size, radius or the position of the mounting holes.
Without a Code
Measure the old insert: length, width, thickness H and arc radius r if the insert is curved to fit the disc. Measure thickness at the least worn spot or take it from the drawing, since the working face is already worn down. Note the position and diameter of the mounting holes, if any. With these data and a photo we will help find the matching item or an equivalent.
Clutch and Brake Are Different Parts
Within one unit, clutch and brake inserts often differ: the range has separate ScPK-800 inserts for the clutch and for the brake, and PKZ500/1000 inserts for the brake. They can differ in shape, size and friction properties, so they are not interchangeable. When ordering, state which part of the unit the insert is for.
Wear and Replacement
Inserts are replaced as a full set on the whole unit so that they seat evenly and share the load. Signs of wear are clutch slip, longer overrun when braking, overheating, and cracks or oil stains on the working face. After replacement, set the clearance and let the inserts bed in on idle strokes.
