Description
The 04116 machine made by NIILITMASH tests the strength of moulding and core sand samples. A press disc comes down on the sample and loads it until it breaks, and the machine records the force at failure. It works with bentonite, sand, clay and other mixtures in green, dry or hardened condition.
According to the product description, model 04116 is intended for compression and tension of dry or hardened samples, has a digital readout, runs on 220 V, 50 Hz and draws 150 VA. It suits plant foundry laboratories and research labs that test moulding materials.
The 04116 testing machine (04116A testing machine, 04116B testing machine) tests specimens for strength.
Purpose of the 04116 machines
The testing mechanism applies mechanical action in the form of pressure to a specimen of a given type. Specimens can be molding materials, for example bentonite mixture, or any other core mixture: sand, clay or sawdust, return mixtures or sulfite liquor. During the test the material can be green, dried or hardened. Among the advantages is the ability to work with quartz products.
To carry out a test, a certain amount of material is taken and placed on the work table of the machine. Above the specimen hangs a press disc which, when a special mechanism is turned, moves down and starts pressing on the object being measured. Under pressure the specimen must not move sideways (shift); it must remain stationary. Under sufficiently high pressure the material starts to crack, which leads to its fracture. Once fracture occurs the test can be stopped, since the specimen has lost its strength. The press is returned and simple measurements of the specimen and of the pressure at fracture are taken.
Additional tests
The following tests can also be carried out:
- Air compression
- Compression of a wet specimen
- Tension of a dry specimen
- Compression of a mixture after hardening
- Tension of a specimen after hardening
