OPTImill BF20 Vario - the best bench milling machine in Europe. The German metal milling machines OPTImill BF20 Vario and OPTImill BF20 L Vario have remained in the bench milling machine line-up for more than 30 years in the model range of Optimum. This milling machine has been copied many times by competitors, but none has managed to reach the same level of reliability and accuracy. Although Optimum machines are made in China, it turns out there is a big difference between manufacturing in China and buying a machine under your own brand from a Chinese manufacturer. The German company Stürmer Maschinen GmbH has its own plants in China and Taiwan and produces machines there under the brand Optimum. Engineers from the Stürmer head office are permanently present at the plants and monitor every stage of the manufacturing process. All machine models are designed by German metalworking equipment engineers. All electronics (control boards, buttons and starters, variable speed drives, etc.) are supplied from Europe. Every milling machine is tested for operation in all modes and checked for accuracy and safety. All this information is recorded in an individual test report.

The OPTImill BF20 bench milling machine for metal is available in three versions. The BF20 Vario and BF20 L Vario models differ only in the long work table. Let us look at the BF20 Vario in more detail...

Technical description:

• OPTImill BF20 Vario is reliable and consistently delivers the stated milling accuracy. As the name suggests, the milling machine has a variable spindle speed drive. This makes it easy and convenient to choose the most suitable speed for milling a part. Since workpieces of many materials are milled today - various grades of steel, non-ferrous metals, plastics, composites - this function is very important. The spindle speed is shown on a display on the control panel of the milling machine. The speed is adjustable from 90 to 3 000 rpm.
• To achieve the stated accuracy, the Optimum bench metal milling machine has a digital readout of quill travel with a resolution of 0.01 mm. The information is shown on a separate display.
• Another important parameter for milling accuracy is rotational accuracy. This is achieved with a precise hardened spindle. The spindle rotates left and right with radial runout of no more than 0.01 mm and runs on high-precision bearings.
• The machine has two quill feed modes. One is used for rough milling, the other for precision work (micrometric feed).
• The machine guideways are of dovetail type, precision ground and scraped, and adjusted with gib strips.
• All lead screws on the OPTImill BF20 have adjustable nuts that reduce backlash to zero.
• The milling head guideway on the BF20 is protected from dust and chips by a cover. The milling head can be tilted 90 degrees in both directions. For convenience, a 12 V halogen lamp is built into the milling head.
• The milling area is covered by a guard with a limit switch that prevents the machine from starting while the guard is open.
• The OPTImill BF20 bench milling machine for metal comes with a branded set of attachments from Optimum. If desired, the customer can buy a CNC kit and a service technician will install it, turning the universal mill into a bench CNC milling machine controlled from a laptop. This model has a built-in start relay that allows the machine to be started by a command from a computer.
