Description
The Optimum OPTIturn TU 2004V is a compact metal lathe for turning outer and inner surfaces of small parts, cutting tapers with the swivelling top slide and cutting metric and imperial threads through change gears. It runs from a standard single-phase socket, so the machine fits into small workshops where floor space and power supply are limited.
Key data for choosing: 600 W motor, two speed ranges within 120-3000 rpm, MT3 spindle taper, MT2 tailstock quill, radial runout up to 0.009 mm, weight 65 kg. Long workpieces up to 300 mm are supported by the tailstock, and fixed and travelling steadies can be fitted. A good fit for repair shops and small-batch production.
Technical description:
The Optimum TU2004 V bench lathe is designed for machining external and internal surfaces of small parts in various industries. A 220 V mains supply and a low weight of 65 kg allow it to be used in any confined workshop with a suitable socket.
- The original modern design of the Optimum TU 2004 V metal lathe is equipped with a 600 W motor.
- The main spindle surfaces are made with high kinematic accuracy, heat-treated and ground on grinding machines. Mounting on high-precision, high-quality bearings provides very smooth and accurate rotation and, as a result, radial runout reduced to 0.009 mm
- The Morse taper 3 bore allows standard tooling to be mounted.
- Using an optional faceplate and a 4-jaw lathe chuck allows machining of eccentric parts and non-cylindrical workpieces.
- The chuck has a guard with a window; when it is opened, the safety interlock trips and the machine stops. The guard is mounted high enough not to interfere with workpieces up to 200 mm. The work area is covered by a transparent protective screen that protects against flying hot chips.
- The gearbox has two speed ranges within 120 – 3000 rpm.
- The lathe is switched on with a button protected against accidental activation. The emergency stop button is conveniently located and acts easily and quickly.
- By setting up the change gear train, metric and inch threads with various pitches can be cut.
- The cast bed of the bench metal lathe Optimum TU 2004 V has prismatic guideways manufactured accurately enough for smooth movement of the main assemblies.
- Swivelling the top slide allows machining of internal and external tapers.
- The lathe's capabilities can be extended and modern cutting tool holders used by replacing the standard tool post with the SWH AA quick-change tool post with interchangeable cartridges for round and square type H and D holders.
- Manual travel is done with handwheels with graduated dials; automatic longitudinal feed is engaged with a lever.
- Long workpieces up to 300 mm are machined using the tailstock. The quill has a Morse taper 2 bore, which allows axial tools and centres to be mounted without additional tooling. For tools with straight shanks, drill chucks or collet chucks with a set of interchangeable collets can be used.
- Long tapers are machined by offsetting the tailstock. Travel of up to 65 mm is made with a handwheel with a graduated dial and locked with a lever. Vibration and deflection can be eliminated using travelling and fixed steadies.
- The tool and workpiece can be cooled with a coolant system (also 220 V), which is advisable to prevent rapid wear of the cutting tool.
- Installing an LED machine lamp provides additional lighting of the work area.
- Chips are removed manually with a brush. For convenient and safe cleaning, a magnetic chip collector is recommended.
