## Description

The rope guide (also called the cable guide) of an electric hoist is a mechanism that guides and lays the hoist rope into the drum grooves. Its main structural element is a cast-iron split nut that travels along the drum grooves and has a special window through which the free end of the load rope exits.
The hoist rope guide performs two functions:
- guiding the load rope as the drum rotates;
- switching the lifting and lowering limit switches on and off.
To start installing the rope guide, disassemble it into its components:
- pressure spring;
- guide nut;
- driver.
Note: Older rope guides used two pressure springs. Today the rope guide design has been improved and contains only one spring.
The rope guide is installed in the following sequence:
1.       Lubricate the threads in the nut and the channel where the rope guide pressure spring is installed. Then move the rope coming out of the housing at an angle onto the rope turns previously wound on the drum and pull it tight.
2.       Place the opened guide nut on the drum so that its threads sit in the groove nearest to the wound rope, and return the rope that was moved at an angle to the drum groove it was moved from. Shift the guide nut until its end sector appears from the bottom of the drum.
3.       Next, place the pressure spring in the dedicated channel of the pressure nut and fasten it (join both ends) using hooks or other springs.
4.       Insert pins into the specially drilled holes in the first and last sectors on the side of the guide nut, and tighten them with an adjustable wrench until the nut sits tightly on the drum.
5.       Then pass the free end of the rope through the hole in the driver and move the driver up against the guide nut, thus connecting both of its sectors, which finally tightens the nut on the drum.
